Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Pow Pow mobile app and website (“Pow Pow”, “we”, “us”) handle information. Pow Pow is a ski and snowboard weather app. We built it to be privacy-friendly: we do not have user accounts, and we do not sell your data.

Short version: Most preferences stay on your device. If you enable Powder Alerts, we store the selected resort rules and a notification token so we can send them. Pow Pow does not require an account, track you across apps, or sell personal data.

1. Information we process

Location (optional). If you grant location permission, the app uses your device’s location to find nearby ski resorts and show local conditions. Your coordinates are used on your device and sent to our weather data provider (Open-Meteo) to retrieve a forecast for your area. If you deny location, the app still works and shows a curated list of popular resorts instead.
App preferences. Settings such as your units (°F/°C), favorite resorts, headline tone, and which sections are shown are stored locally on your device (in the app’s local storage). They are not uploaded to us unless they are part of a Powder Alert rule you explicitly enable.
No account data. Pow Pow has no sign-up, login, or user profiles, so we do not collect names, emails, or passwords.
In-app purchases (Pow Pro). If you buy Pow Pro, the purchase is processed by Google Play Billing, and we use RevenueCat to validate the purchase and manage your entitlement. This involves purchase/transaction data (such as the product purchased, purchase and renewal status) and an app-generated, anonymous identifier used to restore your purchase across reinstalls. We do not receive your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Google Play. We do not use purchase data for advertising and we do not sell it.
Powder Alerts (optional). If a Pow Pro subscriber enables alerts, we store an app-generated installation identifier, a Firebase Cloud Messaging token, the anonymous RevenueCat identifier used to verify Pow Pro, the selected resorts, units, and alert thresholds. We use this information only to evaluate conditions and deliver the requested notification.

2. How location is used

Location is used solely to (a) determine which ski resorts are near you and (b) request weather forecasts for those areas. We do not store a history of your locations on any server, and we do not use location for advertising or tracking.

3. Third-party services

Pow Pow retrieves data from the following providers. Requests to them may include resort coordinates (and, for a local forecast, your approximate location):

Open-Meteo — weather and forecast data. See open-meteo.com/en/terms.
USDA NRCS SNOTEL — real snow-depth measurements for U.S. resorts (public U.S. government data).
Windy — live mountain webcam links. See windy.com/privacy-policy.
Google Play Billing — processes in-app purchases of Pow Pro. See policies.google.com/privacy.
RevenueCat — validates purchases and manages Pow Pro entitlements. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
Google Firebase — stores active Powder Alert registrations and delivers notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging. See firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

These services receive location/coordinate data needed to return results but are not given any account information (because we don’t collect any).

4. Data storage & retention

Local preferences and favorites remain until you clear the app’s data or uninstall it. Active Powder Alert registration data is retained while alerts are enabled. It is deleted when you turn alerts off, when the notification token becomes invalid, when Pow Pro expires, or after 400 days without the app refreshing the registration.

5. Children’s privacy

Pow Pow is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your choices

You can grant or revoke location permission at any time in your device’s system settings.
You can turn Powder Alerts off in Pow Pow settings and revoke notification permission in Android Settings.
You can clear locally stored preferences by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated “Last updated” date.
